Smart snacking is what women require to battle with symptoms of PCOS. Often women do not know what they should munch on- cannot keep the fire in the belly just burning. Read this article to know why Dr. Vibhuti ask her most of women with PCOS to eat one handful mixed trail nuts and seeds every day.
It is 3:30pm, sitting in the office or at home, you always look something to eat, perhaps you crave to eat for something. Maybe you are not hungry but the food you ate in the noon was not enough satisfying for you. Finally, you got that piece of chocolate in your handbag or may be in the kitchen, which was kept secretly to satisfy your such cravings. And what next, after eating that you feel guilty, you feel terrible and blame yourself, why did I eat that? Got one more step back to where you started your fight with PCOS.
I know and  have heard from many women with PCOS who experience the same thing again and again. I understand it too, it’s hard, very hard to adopt new habits -especially if they are healthy one and related to our diet. Changing or adopting something new is a no walk in the park. You need efforts, constant efforts and mindfulness throughout. I will talk about mindful eating next time.

Many times, you would have asked this question to yourself, ‘’what else I could eat or have as snacks if I have PCOS.’’ And my answer would be one handful of the miraculous nuts -loaded with health and goodness, are easily available, easy to carry, satisfy your hunger or craving, filled with nutrition’s and help you keep your PCOS symptoms below edge.

You may be the one who is trying very hard to lose weight after you got a PCOS diagnosis form your doctor who has warned you that you must lose some weight. Or perhaps, you are the one who is trying to have a baby and going through tough time and convincing yourself about healthy eating/dieting. I can say for both, for shedding extra weight or to maintain it or a fertility nutrition, few nuts and seeds are special. They are filled with digestible proteins, fiber, vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals. They are also, very delicious and have distinct flavors.

They are portable- so you can keep them in your purse and much on them anytime when you feel hungry. It is healthy and good for your PCOS problem. Remember not to too much also. Another great thing about them is they are a good blood sugar stabilizer and keep your cholesterol in control. And that’s how they help you to strike straight to the PCOS pathology- insulin resistance. Researchers say that raw whole nuts are sources of helpful fats, specially almonds and walnuts help you to maintain your weight, reduce ‘bad’ cholesterol.

The studies have suggested that eating nuts positively affects cholesterol, insulin, and androgen levels in women with PCOS. Fascinatingly, researchers have found a link between eating nuts and reduced risk for type 2 diabetes. Almonds: Let me talk more about Almonds first, research says that they tend to reduce the potency of male hormones-testosterone. Again, many women with PCOS have high levels of male hormones in their body. So, eat 5-6 almonds soaked the previous night and munch on them. Also, they are best sources of the antioxidant vitamin E- which helps in preventing heart diseases, cancer and moreover, gives you a healthy skin which gets badly affected if you have PCOS.

In addition, almonds boast high calcium and magnesium content. Walnuts: Another one I like is Walnuts, the brain shape nut. It contains lots of an omega-3 fat, that’s why it is goof heart and for brain. Further, according to a research, walnuts reduced long-term glucose (blood sugar) levels and thus improve insulin sensitivity by 26% and decreased glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c). Also, for your surprise, walnuts are believed to increase sex-hormone binding globulin (SHBG), a hormone that binds to testosterone, which is a good thing for keeping your hormones under control in PCOS.

Be cautioned:
 You can easily get addicted to eating lots of nuts.
 Remember they are not good in excess.
 Do not eat salted or roasted nuts what you get in the supermarket.
 Eat them raw or sprouted as they are best, or may be dry roast is better than oil roasted ones.
 Avoid eating non-organic nuts.

One tip: substitute nuts for food you’d usually eat. So, for example, munch on a few nuts instead of high carbohydrate, non-nutritious potato chips or sugary drinks. Give a whole new healthy habit to yourself- be guilt free and keep away those bothersome PCOS symptoms.
